Dear Friends and Supporters,
I’m writing to introduce The Harmony Collaboration, and to ask for your support in helping us achieve our goals.
The Harmony Collaboration is an incorporated Not For Profit Charitable organization with the goal of connecting more people to Indigenous culture and heritage through the shared experience of the performing arts.
Since 2014, Harmony has been building a deep-rooted and respectful collaborative relationship with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, located near the Six Nations of the Grand River in Haldimand and Brant Counties. We are very proud that over the past 2 years, our relationship has flourished and strengthened.
Following a series of discussions, Harmony and the Mississaugas of the Credit Cultural Committee identified the Mississaugas of the Credit’s Kiinwi Dbaadjmowin (“Our Story”) Mural as creative inspiration for this collaboration, receiving the Mississaugas of the Credit Chief and Band Council’s permission and endorsement in 2015. This mural, created by professional and aspiring Aboriginal artists, is a visual depiction of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation’s Creation Story, and is permanently located there, in the Lloyd S. King Elementary School.
What is The Harmony Collaboration creating?
Harmony is creating a multimedia music theatre performance entitled FIRST incorporating visual and performing arts, expressing the wisdom contained in the mural content. The production includes the development of new music, lyrics, choreography and visual imagery created by artists commissioned by The Harmony Collaboration. We are working toward our first full performance.
How will your donation help?
Through artistic exploration and expression, Harmony’s work is bringing to life a new understanding of the mural and its story. Your financial support will help cover commissioning costs, artistic personnel, performers, rehearsal space, print and online resource materials, and behind-the-scenes support staff.
Your support WILL make a difference.
Your financial support will help Harmony’s collaborative partners raise awareness that many of the cultures comprising the Canada share common values inherent in our First Nations’ stewardship of the earth.
Tax receipts will be issued, and your generosity will be acknowledged in performance programs and on our website.
Supporting the arts gives back!
Your financial assistance will support the artists in creating positive social change through powerful performance art. Please join us.
We thank you most sincerely for your donation.
